The Actors’ Studio scenes are chosen from well-known plays and short scenes written by Firedoor members. If there is a scene that you particularly like, you can always suggest it to us.

Past Workshops at Firedoor Theatre
Commencing 18th April 2023
April Acting Workshop 2023
Our April workshops will be on Tuesday and will run for 3 weeks.
Dates: 18th April, 25th April & 2nd May 7-Time: 7:00pm – 9.00pm.
Cost: €40 (Discounted fee of €30 for members)
Details:
Everyone will be assigned scenes to work on with a partner. They will each be about 5-6 mins long. Those scenes will be worked on each week and performed with a discussion at the end of each workshop.
The workshop will be split, with half of the time spent working on your scene with your partner, someone will come around to ensure you’re not struggling/give some brief advice, but for the most part you’ll have to figure it out yourself, how to block it, what props if any to use, how to stage it etc.
Then the second half will be spent performing the scenes in front of the rest of the class with feedback provided afterwards.
Ideally everyone will work on that scene, learning the lines and working on your scene to bring it to a polished level by the last week, evolving over time, taking the feedback into account, enhancing what works and resolving the things that don’t work.
Places are quite limited, so if you are interested please reply asap to this email and I will send you on payment details. Places are only reserved once payment has been received

Actors' Studio
Commencing Jan 17th 2023
– Limited spaces!
Our Actors’ Studio is starting on Tuesday, January the 17th. A number of lucky participants will rehearse a cool scene through three consecutive Tuesdays, and will act it out on the last session.
The concept of the Actors’ Studio is as follows: we pair up participating actors and they pick a scene among the scenes proposed by the Firedoor facilitator. Then the actors works on that scene over the course of 3 two-hour sessions. The Actors’ Studio scenes are chosen among well-known plays and short scenes written by Firedoor members as part of our Writers Group. And if you’re taking part and there is a scene that you particularly like, you can suggest it to us.
Shakespeare Workshop
November 21st 2022 @ 7.00pm
Brian Quinn, special facilitator will be teaching a Shakespeare workshop block commencing on November 21st at 7pm. This block will include breaking down the language to make it more understandable, exploring the themes and thropes of Shakespeare, and breaking down scenes to see what is really happening through the monologues and soliloquies.
Virtual Workshop
Wed 31st Aug 2022 @ 7.30pm
We will be doing a virtual playreading (on zoom) of Brian Quinns play OII. (Othello II) on the 31st August @ 7.30pm.
This is a modern take on Shakespeare’s Othello with all the characterisation, heroes, villains, scheming and planning that was in the original. In this version, a theatre company is travelling and performing “Othello” and are planning a 3 month tour of Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. Ken never gets the best parts, Michael Cassidy has the lead part, (Othello), in the play and Ken is plotting against him and Oliver, the Artistic Director, who has the main villain (Iago), because he keeps getting overlooked . Add in Desiree (Desdemona) who may or may not be having relations with a member of the company, Roger who is in love with Desiree, Mr Barry who isn’t happy about his daughter’s possible de-flowerment, Emily, Roger and Mr Duke and a cast of thousands (theoretically) and we have everything needed* for some hubble, bubble, toil and trouble!
We are looking to pre-cast some of the roles for the play reading so if you are interested please let us know and we can send you the script. Other roles will be cast on the night. If you are interested in attending and / or playing a character please contact firedoortheatre@gmail.com
